Core sandwich structures are built using Epoxy-Glass fiber-reinforced face sheets and aluminum alloy cores. This lightweight design enhances specific bending stiffness and strength, while also improving energy absorption during impact. To simulate composite behavior under impact, Hashin’s damage criterion is applied. The Explicit procedure in Abaqus is suitable for this type of analysis, especially to capture the collapse of the sandwich panel during impact. Below are some figures from the simulation:
