Fusion welding is a joining process in which metals are fused together to form a solid bond. This technique is widely used in the fabrication of ships, offshore structures, steel bridges, and pressure vessels.
In this study, the heat generated by the moving welding arc was applied as a volumetric heat source. The distribution of heat followed the double ellipsoidal model proposed by Goldak. The moving heat source was implemented in Abaqus using the user subroutine DFLUX.
For the thermal model, boundary conditions included both convection and radiation interactions. Figures of the simulation results are provided below.
