In this tutorial, the high-velocity bullet impact on a three-layer plate is simulated using Abaqus. All parts are modeled in three-dimensional space.
Steel behavior is represented with ductile and shear damage, including damage evolution.
Aluminum behavior is modeled using Johnson-Cook plasticity and damage.
Silicon carbide behavior is captured with ductile damage combined with Drucker-Prager plasticity.
The Dynamic Explicit procedure is chosen as it is well-suited for this type of impact analysis. Proper interactions and boundary conditions are applied to all components. Figures from the simulation are shown below.
