This tutorial demonstrates TBM (Tunneling) modeling in Abaqus with dry and saturated soil conditions.

The soil is modeled as a three-dimensional part, divided into two zones: dry and saturated. The Mohr-Coulomb plasticity model is used to represent soil behavior.

The tunnel lining is modeled as a three-dimensional shell with concrete material properties.

The analysis is performed in several steps:

Application of soil body forces

Excavation

Relaxation

Installation of the lining

A transient soil step is used, which is appropriate for this type of tunneling analysis. Figures of the simulation are provided below.
