In this tutorial, the effect of a water jet on a thin plate is simulated using Abaqus.

The water is modeled with the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method.

The material behavior is defined using the Us–Up equation.

The plate is represented as a shell element with elastic–plastic properties.

Plate failure during impact is captured by creating a damage model using the Edit Keyword capability.

Figures from the simulation are shown below.
