In this video, we show a step-by-step simulation of femur bone fracture under impact with a rigid body in Abaqus. The impactor is modeled as a rigid body with an initial velocity so it can penetrate the femur. The bone geometry is created in SolidWorks and then imported into Abaqus.
To predict the fracture area, the Johnson–Cook (JC) material model is used. This model provides plasticity and damage behavior suitable for impact problems. For the general contact definition, we enable the edit keyword option to ensure that internal element interactions are considered.
Below, you can see several figures from the simulation.
