One of the main challenges in designing submersibles is reducing the weight of the pressure hull to increase payload capacity for crew and equipment, while also improving its strength to withstand hydrostatic pressure, underwater explosions, and other environmental loads.

The pressure hull is a critical component of any submersible, often accounting for one-fourth to one-half—or even more—of the total vehicle weight. Various pressure hull configurations are used in small submersibles to balance strength and weight efficiency.

Non-contact underwater explosions pose a significant threat to ships and submarines. The structural response to such explosions is typically categorized into two types: near-field explosions and far-field explosions. These events can cause severe damage to submerged structures.

For this type of simulation, dynamic explicit analysis in Abaqus is well-suited. Figures illustrating the simulation procedure and results are provided below.
