In this video, a fluid–structure interaction (FSI) simulation is performed in Abaqus. Abaqus provides the capability to couple Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) with Standard analysis for accurate FSI studies.

In this example, the effect of air velocity on a short steel column is investigated. The air domain is created in the CFD section, where air properties such as density and viscosity are defined. The column is modeled in the Standard section, with steel assigned as the material using elastic properties.

To establish proper interaction, Fluid–Structure Interaction is applied between the two models. Velocity and pressure in the CFD domain are coupled with stress and displacement in the Standard domain.
