
In this tutorial, pile penetration into soil is simulated using the Coupled Eulerian–Lagrangian (CEL) method in Abaqus. The soil is modeled as an Eulerian domain with a Coulomb–Mohr material model. The pile is represented as a three-dimensional Lagrangian part with concrete material properties. An explicit procedure is chosen for this analysis. Two steps are defined:
- In the first step, body forces are applied to the soil.
- In the second step, the pile penetrates into the soil.
The figures below show selected results from this simulation.
