Workshop: Simulation Ballfilled With Air Impact To The Water In Abaqus

In this tutorial, the impact of an air-filled ball on water is simulated step by step in Abaqus.

  • The ball is modeled using shell elements with a hyperelastic material.
  • Internal and external pressures, along with air properties, are defined using the Fluid Cavity technique.
  • Water is represented with Eulerian elements and the Us–Up equation.
  • An explicit procedure is applied, which is suitable for this type of dynamic analysis.

During the impact, the ball penetrates into the water. The pressure and volume of the fluid cavity change suddenly. Figures of the simulation results are shown below.
